Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic is the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disorders and conditions of the neuromusculoskeletal system, specifically related to the spine, pelvis, extremity joints and the nervous system. It is a drug-free, manual approach to health care and is one of the largest primary-contact health care professions in Ontario.

By performing a complete patient assessment, including a full health history and physical exam, chiropractors are able to develop an individualized treatment plan for the patient. Depending on the condition, this may include a combination of adjustments, joint mobilization, Active Release Therapy®, Graston® Technique, acupuncture, or rehabilitation exercises. Chiropractic care may also include dietary, nutritional and lifestyle counseling in order to improve a patients body as a whole.

What is an adjustment?

An adjustment is a highly skilled, and precise movement usually applied by hand to a joint of the body in order to restore normal range of motion and optimize function. It works by relieving pressure on a joint and surrounding nerves, thereby decreasing pain and discomfort. It has been proven to help increase motion and circulation to an area as well as decrease muscle spasm and swelling.

When a joint is adjusted, a gas bubble escapes causing the popping sound that you may have heard about. Chiropractic adjustment techniques have been researched extensively. Complications are rare and side effects, such as temporary soreness, are usually minor. Chiropractors are well trained to determine if your problem will respond to chiropractic care or if you require referral to another health care provider.

" I made an appointment with Dr. Tara because I was waking at night with right shoulder pain. It was quite painful and caused numbing in my fingers and thumb. Tara sent me for X-rays which showed I was arthritic and likely had a pinched nerve. Tara treated me with deep massages to my shoulders, upper back, hand, arm & thumb. It took some time, but I do not experience any of these problems anymore. "
